How to make your own flocked christmas tree |
Posted: December 18, 2018 |
It's that time of the year again - time to buy or make a Christmas Tree. Why not get creative this year and create your own flocked christmas tree.
Flocked trees look like they have snow on them (but of course they never melt). It gives your tree a fun and frosty look.
And, you don't need to stop at the Christmas tree. You can also flock wreaths and garlands. And you'll be happy to know that you can flock both real and fake trees.
So, here's an easy way to flock you tree.
First put your tree together. And make sure you put a drop cloth underneath to reduce the mess (you may want to try this in the basement).
Now first, it seems to work best when you order SnoFlock (you can find this on Amazon). It seems to be messier when you try to do a homemade recipe (and it doesn't stick as well. So save yourself some time and mess and order it ahead of time.
It's better to order some extra. Running out is not fun, and remember if you have extra, you can alway use it on other items or save it for next year.
You will also need a spray bottle and a strainer. Also, you may want to have a step stool on hand, especially if the tree is taller than you are.
Lights spray a section of the tree with water. We will be doing 1 section at a time. Put the flocking mixture into a strainer and then sift.
Then, spray the water again. The water activates the adhesive in the flock mixture, fluffs it up and seals it.
Keep working section by section. Afterwards, if you want to add some more flocking, you can do that, but make sure you go all the way around the first time, in case you are running low on the mixture.
Allow the tree to dry. Sometimes overnight is sufficient. Other times, you may need to wait 2 to 3 days. The more flocking you add, the longer it takes to dry.
Oh, an if this feels like too much work, you can always get a pre-made flocked christmas tree. To see the best flocked christmas trees for 2018, you can check this article.
